The Breast Reduction Procedure

Breast reduction mammoplasty surgary

A "Reduction Mammoplasty" is the surgical procedure for Breast Reduction. A Mammoplasty is a costly and painful procedure where a trained physician will go into the breast and remove the excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin from the breasts, thus making them smaller, and or firmer. This procedure can often leave scars and be quite painful.

After surgery, you are tightly dressed in a surgical bra over gauze dressings. A small tube is then placed in each breast to drain off fluids and blood for the first few days. You may feel some pain for a few days especially when you move around or cough. Your surgeon should prescribe medication to help lessen the pain. The bandages can be removed after a few days, though you'll still need to wear your surgical bra around the clock for several weeks, until the bruising and swelling subsides.

Your stitches can be removed after a few weeks. This is not a nice experience for any woman let alone a young women suffering with oversized breasts. It's important to remember that breast reduction scars are extensive and permanent and can remain lumpy and red for months after surgery.
